About the Book

Humans aren’t the only beings witnessing the near collapse of Earth due to climate change, nuclear weapons proliferation and pandemics. Interplanetary salvagers, the Plenetians have been watching Earth for a thousand years from their own water-starved planet, patiently waiting for humanity’s apocalypse.

Nyne, an undercover scout from Plenetia, has been sent in human guise to scope how close Earth is to catastrophe. Nyne becomes convinced that humanity is worth saving after serendipitous encounters with Chi, a Native American single mom and her grandfather Blue Clouds, a repentant ex-con, who struggle to survive poverty and drought in the Arizona desert.

As Plenetian leaders hatch a plot to hasten humanity’s demise, Chi and Nyne find themselves in the middle of the resulting subterfuge. Complicating matters is the U.S. government’s pursuit to capture and neutralize the alien threat. This fast paced, unpredictable adventure catapults the reader around the world and beyond, to a final showdown, with the future of Earth teetering in the balance.

"Salvage" by Arnie Koss offers a riveting exploration of humanity's struggle against climate change and environmental destruction through the eyes of interplanetary salvagers, the Plenetians. Nyne, an undercover Plenetian scout, discovers the resilience of humanity in the face of adversity, particularly through the poignant relationships between Chi, a Native American single mother, her grandfather Blue Clouds, and her son Jair. Koss masterfully crafts these relationships, making the characters feel real and relatable. Amidst the fast-paced adventure of governmental pursuit and interplanetary sabotage, the novel delivers a powerful and hopeful message about conservation and climate change, reminding readers of the urgency of our environmental stewardship. I highly recommend "Salvage" for its gripping storyline, rich character development, and timely themes.
"Salvage is a fast paced, high action sci-fi page turner with vividly drawn characters and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. The characters are compelling and the message of climate protection is one we all need to take seriously. I could barely put it down. Very well done!"
"Somewhere by page 50, I almost always find myself looking ahead to see how much more I have to read to be able to finish in time for my next book group meeting. Reading Salvage, by Arnie Koss, I looked ahead to see how long the book is and found myself downright DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS BOOK WOULD END at all. It is an absolutely wonderful world and other-worldly story that Arnie Koss takes us into, that is both a welcome reprieve from regular life and also shines an illuminating light on our regular lives. Through the engaging depiction of present-day native American family members and also inhabitants of a different planet, the author helps us to see how we humans take our environment for granted. This is a riveting adventure that will both entertain and causes us to take a careful look at our relationship with the environment. The author is to be commended for what sounds like his life-long work to respect and preserve the environment through first his creation of the world’s first organic baby food company, and now this book with its most important, timely message, helping us all to consider our relationship with our Earth."
"I have always believed that the native people of this country were, and still are the proper keepers of this land. The prayer at the beginning of the first chapter brought tears to my eyes as nothing I have ever read before. Please follow up with more of this story."
"Salvage brings together the elements of suspense, science fiction, and imagination to create a true page-turning experience. From start to finish, Salvage kept me engaged and intrigued. Although this author is new to the fiction space, you can tell his creativity is perfectly suited for it."
"Reading Salvage left me wanting the “Prequel,” the “Sequel,” and the movie. Great thought-provoking and riveting storytelling. Hard to put down. The other-worldliness of the plot was fascinating, and the central Indigenous element was sensitively portrayed and developed. Talk about walking a tightrope. I loved Salvage."
"I loved the message of the story that everyone of us has a part to play in changing the current story in the world. Too, Arnie is an extremely gifted storyteller. Good character development."
"Salvage kept my attention and kept me reading--did not want to put it down, even in the middle of the night. It is smart, sensitive, and brings attention to the very survival of our planet and humanity--extremely relevant today given our climate change issues. It also addresses the core of our humanity--family, identity, and love. Highly recommend!"

About the Author

Born in the Catskill Mountains of New York State, Arnie’s backstory as a college drop-out, homesteader, Mexican food cook, commercial sprout grower, Shaker style broom crafter and so much more became the fertile ground that, with his twin brother Ron, led to the founding of Earth’s Best Baby Food, the nation’s first organic baby food company. The birth of Earth’s Best was chronicled in the Koss brothers’ memoir The Earth’s Best Story (published by Chelsea Green Publishing).

Arnie’s writing started with journaling and poetry. At some point he graduated to become the family storyteller. Salvage represents the manifestation of years of dabbling, starts and stops and confusion about how to become a worthy writer. More than anything, Salvage reveals Arnie’s deep-rooted belief that ordinary people can make a difference.
